Mason's call was issued in Salt Lake City on January 12, 2016. It arrived at our home on Thursday, January 21, 2016. Mason was at work when it arrived in the mail, so I sent him a text to let him know that it had arrived. He was very excited and anxious to open it as soon as he got home from work, but due to Steve (Mason's Dad) not being home yet and other siblings not being available, he had to wait until 8:00pm to open it. It was the longest 2 hours of his life waiting for everyone to be available. He just walked around the house holding the envelope and looking at it over and over. Mason invited several friends, neighbors and leaders from church to come to our home to be there when he opened it. We also had several skype and facetime phone calls going with family and friends at BYU-I. It was a very emotional time for him as he had prepared for this day for many years and was anxious to know what the next two years of his life would bring. He was very shocked to find he was going to Tokyo, Japan as he did not expect that at all. His reaction was priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a very tender and emotional time as he read his letter extending the call to him. The spirit was very strong confirming that Tokyo was where he was to serve. From that moment on, Mason tried to learn and study as much language and culture about Japan as he could. He made flash cards and studied everyday. It was awesome seeing him take his call very serious. As much as possible, he also started living by as many mission rules as he could so he would be prepared. This day was the beginning of a new journey in his life.
The "moment" he read where he would be serving.
